Explore how growth mindset can help your child reach their potential

You may not have heard of ‘growth mindset’ before. Or, you may have heard of it but don’t really know what it means. The interactive resource below has been created to help you learn more about mindset and how it can help you support your child’s learning and development.

“What a child can do today with assistance, she will be able to do by herself tomorrow.”

- Jean Piaget

This interactive resource, “How Mindset Can Help You to Support Your Child’s Learning & Development,” guides parents and carers step-by-step through the idea of growth mindset, showing how small changes in thinking and language can make a big difference for children.

The resource was created based on feedback from over 130 parents who shared with us about what they would like to know more about. It provides information and ideas on how to further support your child’s learning and development.

Instead of scrolling through lots of text, you can click, watch and listen as you go.

The resource includes pop-up explanations, visual examples and optional accessibility tools that let you read or hear the content in the way that works best for you.

Mindset Matters

The way we think about ability can influence how children approach challenges, mistakes and feedback. Learn how a growth mindset can help them build confidence and reach their potential.

Why What We Say Matters

Our words and expectations influence how children view their abilities. By choosing language carefully, we can help them feel capable, motivated, and ready to learn.

The Right Kind of Challenge

Protecting children from struggle can hold them back. By encouraging them to step just outside their comfort zone, we give them the chance to build resilience, confidence and new skills, within a supportive environment.

Making Mistakes is Key to Learning

Many young people, and adults for that matter, can feel bad about making mistakes, as they don’t fully understand that they are a key part of learning. Sometimes it can be that they don't feel safe to make mistakes.

Anxiety and the Learning Journey

Fear of failure and self-doubt can stop children from engaging in school or trying new things. By spotting the signs, we can help them rebuild confidence and feel safe to learn.

The Power of Purposeful Praise

How we praise our children can shape their confidence and approach to learning. Focusing on the process, not just the outcome, makes praise more meaningful and effective.
