Winning Scotland CEO Zahra Hedges spoke with Kaye Adams on BBC Radio Scotland about tackling drug use among young people.
Zahra stressed that real change comes from prevention and support, not quick fixes:
“If we can delay the age at which young people first take drugs, and reduce the numbers taking them at all, we can change long-term outcomes. But it takes time, investment, and everyone working together.”
That means:
* Positive role models and safe home lives
* Purpose and achievement at school
* Fun and belonging outside the classroom
Other countries have turned the tide by strengthening these protective factors. Scotland can too- by creating environments where healthy choices are the norm.
